Communications manager - JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary

The Communications Manager is a full-time position responsible for executing and project managing the day-to-day communications work for Congresswoman Ramirez’s political organization. This position generates and manages content for digital communications, creates print and web materials, and executes against the organization’s communications plan to advance the Congresswoman’s priorities. The Communications Manager will help execute a unified communications strategy for the Congresswoman’s political organization across her various roles including as a candidate for re-election to Congress through United with Delia for Congress, as a progressive political leader supporting candidates through the Rooted and Ready Leadership PAC, as a Democratic Party leader in IL and member of the Democratic National Committee, and as a convener of progressive stakeholders and coalitions in IL.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Messaging & Strategy

    • Work with the campaign team to develop messaging for Congresswoman Ramirez’ political organization that ensures consistency with her brand, voice, and progressive politics.

    • Develop public-facing content for the Congresswoman, including preparing talking points, speeches, press releases and statements, event memos and prep materials, and candidate questionnaires.

    • Staff the congresswoman at public-facing events and speaking engagements with a focus on communications and generating content.

    • Supervise communications interns/fellows and consultants as necessary.

  • Digital Communications

    • Generate and manage content for the Congresswoman's political social media accounts, including Facebook/Instagram, Bluesky, TikTok, etc.

      • This includes but is not limited to creating graphics, editing pictures, clipping videos, and managing a content calendar.

    • Design materials for print and web, including but not limited to flyers, endorsement graphics, event pages, web pages, walk pieces, signs, etc.

    • Work with the team to manage and update the Congresswoman's website and social media profiles to ensure up-to-date and accurate information across all platforms.

    • Manage the content creation and delivery side of the Congresswoman’s email and texting program, and work with the Finance Director to ensure the program is helping meet the organization’s fundraising goals.

    • Create and keep updated a campaign branding guide that can be used by Team Delia, partners, and consultants as needed 

  • Press & Media Relations

    • Create opportunities to highlight the Congresswoman’s political work through earned media.

    • Act as supporting contact and liaison to the press on behalf of the Congresswoman’s political organization.

    • Work with the campaign team to regularly pitch the Congresswoman for interviews and appearances on local and national media outlets 

    • Maintain an up-to-date press list of key local and national press contacts. 

    • Manage the campaign press email and, in consultation with the campaign team, respond to inquiries in a timely and strategic manner.

    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. 

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of campaign or government communications experience (congressional experience preferred)

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (bilingual in Spanish strongly preferred)

  • A passion for producing creative, meaningful, and resonant content for digital and print media.

  • Experience speaking on record on behalf of a principal or organization

  • Proven leadership that is strategic, thoughtful, and collaborative

  • Familiarity with campaign communications tools, including social media platforms, Canva, Squarespace, CRMs, and tools like NGP VAN, scale to win.

  • A valid US driver's license, and/or access to reliable, insured transportation

  • Must be able to work campaign hours as well as nights and weekends, as needed 

Reporting & Compensation Structure

The Communications Manager reports directly to the Executive Director. This is a full-time, permanent, salaried position. The target salary range for this role is $55,000 to $65,000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
