FINANCE DIRECTOR - JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary: 

The Finance Director is a full-time position that leads fundraising efforts for Congresswoman Ramirez’ political organization. They create and execute holistic fundraising plans to further the Congresswoman’s priorities and lead the day-to-day operations of all of Congresswoman Ramirez’ fundraising initiatives. They ensure alignment in fundraising for the Congresswoman’s political organization across her various roles, including as a candidate for re-election to Congress through United with Delia for Congress, as a progressive leader supporting candidates through the Rooted and Ready Leadership PAC, as a Democratic Party leader in IL and member of the Democratic National Committee, and as a convener of progressive stakeholders and coalitions in IL.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Strategic Development 

    • Develop and oversee a fundraising plan that maintains the Congresswoman as a leading political figure in Illinois and in Congress. 

    • Advance a strategy to grow the Congresswoman’s national progressive donor network and broaden our donor base.

    • Develop relationships with new constituencies, key stakeholders, and prospective donors and partners that can expand our networks.

    • Cultivate and manage relationships with major donors interested in long-term investment into the Congresswoman’s political work.

    • Create initiatives to support, train, resource, and convene fundraising staff for allied organizations and candidates to strengthen the progressive fundraising infrastructure for the Congresswoman’s coalition.

  • Fundraising Management 

    • Create and implement a robust fundraising plan with clearly stated quarterly and annual goals and benchmarks for tracking progress for each of the Congresswoman’s affiliated PACs.

    • Manage a weekly call time schedule that ensures:

      • Lists are well prepped with advance notice, call time staff are equipped, and clear goals are articulated and accomplished.

      • Follow up tasks associated with securing pledges are executed.

      • New donor prospects are researched and reports are prepared for planning and outreach.

      • Thank you notes/calls are made on a regular and timely basis.

    • Maintain a list and clear criteria of donors/stakeholders that the Congresswoman and her various affiliated PACs do not take contributions from and vet all contributions against these criteria.

    • Manage fundraising volunteers, including staffing a core group of volunteers as a finance/fundraising committee.

    • Be the lead staffer for fundraising events including developing plans and materials, coordinating with stakeholders, and equipping other campaign staff and volunteers to provide support.

    • Staff the congresswoman for meetings with fundraising prospects and stakeholders as needed.

    • Travel with the Congresswoman to staff her for events and fundraising meetings as needed.

  • Compliance & Operations

    • Work with the Executive Director to develop a yearly budget that is aligned to the fundraising plan. 

    • In partnership with the campaign team, build systems and protocols to ensure effective and seamless finance operations and full compliance with state and federal laws including providing support to meet quarterly reporting requirements.

    • Develop data management systems that ensure accurate and clear reporting of all fundraising activities and provide reports as requested.

    • Stay informed on all applicable state and federal policies related to our campaign committee and related PACs and advise the team as necessary .

    • Work with the compliance team to ensure timely deposits of checks and wire transfers.

  • Digital & Communications

    • Work with the Communications Manager to ensure alignment of our digital communications program with the broader fundraising plan and goals.

    • Work with the Communications Manager to create marketing materials, including registration forms, flyers, and donation pages for campaign fundraising events.

    • Work with the campaign team to ensure that messaging in all fundraising efforts is aligned with the broader communications strategy and goals of the Congresswoman.

  • Supervision, Training & Resourcing

    • Supervise the PAC Fundraising consultant, fundraising interns and/or any junior fundraising staff.

    • Train and equip other campaign staff to support fundraising efforts, including but not limited to event staffing and call time support.

    • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Desired Experience & Qualifications

  • 3-5 cycles of campaign fundraising experience 

  • Proven experience in setting and achieving strategic and measurable goals

  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, especially listening skills and ability to communicate professionally and empathetically, in writing and verbally

  • Deep knowledge of campaign fundraising tools, including  NGP Van and Act Blue

  • A valid US driver's license, and/or access to reliable, insured transportation

  • Must be able to work campaign hours as well as nights and weekends, as needed

Compensation Structure

This is a full-time, permanent, salaried position. The target salary range for this role is $65,000 to $85,000 per year. Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
